Direct-to-garment printing (DTG) uses inkjet technology to print a design directly onto the fabric of a shirt — no screens, no transfers, no minimums. The result is a soft, full-color print that can reproduce photographs, gradients, and complex artwork that screen printing cannot handle economically.

DTG stands for direct-to-garment. A specialized inkjet printer applies water-based inks directly to the fabric surface. The garment is pre-treated with a bonding solution, then run through the printer, then cured with heat to lock the ink into the fibers. The result is a print that stretches with the shirt, washes without cracking, and reproduces colors accurately.
Best for: 1–50 pieces, full-color or photographic designs, small runs, one-offs, and orders where no minimum matters. Soft hand feel. Works on 100% cotton and cotton-rich blends.
Screen printing is more cost-effective at 12+ pieces with 1–3 spot colors. DTG wins for small runs, full-color art, and orders where setup cost would price out a small quantity.
DTF uses a heat-applied film transfer and works on any fabric including polyester. DTG produces a softer, more breathable print on cotton. Both have no minimum — choose based on fabric type.
Embroidery stitches thread into the garment — ideal for logos on polos, hats, and jackets. DTG is better for full-color art, photo prints, and soft-feel designs on t-shirts.

Polyester and synthetic fabrics do not absorb the water-based inks well — for those fabrics, DTF transfers are a better option. Yes. DTG printing on dark garments requires a white underbase layer to be applied first, which adds a step and slightly increases cost. The result is a vibrant, full-color print that shows up clearly on black, navy, and other dark fabrics. We will include this in your quote if needed.
